DO IT YOURSELF
There will be much more coming to this page; check back...
FIRST; Make your centerpiece with Harmony & a Color Palette. We like to work with one central piece. ( The main theme or idea of your piece) and have all the smaller elements 'flow' or bring your eye up and towards this main piece. There are plenty of great books & articles on design. May I suggest you begin with sketches; they will save you money in both time & materials.
  • A.  Make sure your centerpiece is the proper dimensions & weight ; The rules are that it be under 14"; or else use a pole or pedestal above 24"; the weight will depend upon how many balloons or other elements will be above....
  • B. Make sure your centerpiece is balanced; visually the elements and colors should complement each other all the way around your piece  (When in doubt; place your piece on a turntable and slowly spin it to see how it looks from every angle)
  • C. Make sure your centerpiece is sturdy and that the "mechanics" (Glue, screws, styrofoam etc..) are not showing
  • D. Also be sure that you have checked with your catering hall/restaurant about what you are planning. Many venues have additional rules about what you can/cannot do; some do not allow you to 'set up' on site; and some do not allow things like glitter and confetti. WHEN IN DOUBT: CONSULT and/or HIRE A PROFESSIONAL!!!
  • E. Outdoor Decorations have an entirely different set of 'rules'. Decorations must be weather proof; rain, wind & sun will destroy your hard work very quickly; Be Prepared!!!
  • A word about GLASSWARE and CANDLES:  If you are hosting a kids or teen party; think twice about these items; Safety is a must and unsupervised kids love to play!
  • Think about how your centerpieces will be transported both to and from the party.
